Reps to monitor probe of military accidental bombing

House of Representatives has said it will monitor the investigation into the accidental bombing of a Kaduna community by the military last Sunday.

Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, stated this, in a statement, on Saturday. Babajimi, while condoling with families of the victims and the Kaduna State government, urged security agencies to prioritize the safety of civilians during operations.

A military aircraft had accidentally bombed Tundun Biri community in Kaduna State, last Sunday. About 80 persons reportedly died in the incident.

The lawmaker, who expressed regret over the incident, charged the military to take measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, as well as exercise utmost caution in future operations.

According to him, “The unfortunate incident in Tudun Biri community, Kaduna state, has cast a sombre mood over the hearts of all Nigerians.The House of Representatives Committee on Defence is profoundly saddened by this regrettable incident. The loss of innocent lives in this tragic incident is heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families.

“We would like to recognise the prompt admission of responsibility by the Nigerian Army following the accidental air strike. Additionally, commendation is extended to the various stakeholders who played crucial roles in alleviating the suffering of the victims.
