The Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Olusegun Dada, has warned social media influencers in Kebbi State to avoid spreading falsehood and fake news that could ignite crisis in the country.
Mr. Dada was speaking at an interactive session with social media operators in Birnin Kebbi in the course of his visit to Kebbi State.
He made it clear that although social media practice has come to stay in Nigeria, users must know the limitations of freedom of speech by avoiding false information and dispatches.
According to him, “there have been instances of circulation of fake news on the social media or the spread of deliberate false information which the Tinubu administration is working hard to eradicate. We must be responsible users of social media”.
Dada explained that, already, laws have been enacted against cybercrime, cyber bullying and false information which the security services would continue to enforce.
The SA thanked Governor Nasir Idris for hosting the interactive meeting with members of the new media to further induct them on modern and responsible usage of social media.
Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, showed case the agricultural potential of Kebbi State as the food basket of the nation.
The Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki and the Special Adviser on New Media, Aliyu Bandado, commended the SSA to Mr. President for advancing the practice of social media for societal growth.
They advocated for synergy between conventional media practitioners and social media influencers for proper information dissemination in the country.
