A total of 2,931 arrests for different offences were recorded by the Nigeria Police in Kano State from January to December 2023.
A release issued, Friday, by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, listed the arrests to include 337 suspected armed robbers, 55 suspected kidnappers, 65 suspected drug dealers and 68 suspected motor thieves.
Others, according to the release, included 187 suspected thieves, 57 suspected tricycle thieves, 59 suspected fraudsters and 2036 suspected thugs (Yan dabas).
Kiyawa, a Superintendent of Police, held that they received a total of 662 repentant thugs and rescued 25 kidnapping and 63 trafficking victims within the year under review.
The statement further disclosed that items recovered in the year included four AK rifles, one Barretta pistol, one anti-riot gunner, eight double barrel guns, two Makarov pistols, five English pistols, 53 locally made guns,12 Dane guns and 14 toy guns.
Other recoveries by the police included 83 ammunitions, 26 cartridges, 205 motor – vehicles,34 tricycles and 86 motorcycles, including 3079 mobile phones and 990 cartons of fake and expired drugs, among a host of others.
The statement expressed delight at the confidence and friendship extended to the Command by the people of the state while remarking that the policing approach adopted by them was yielding positive results.
The statement expressed the commitment and resolve of the police in providing a safe and secure environment for the people of the state.
