Jonathan visits Diri, urges other contestants to accept result

Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the   Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri to congratulate him for his electoral victory in the recently held off-circle governorship election held in the state. Jonathan, while congratulating Diri at the Government House in Yenagoa, called on other contestants to accept the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and join hands with the governor to move the state forward.

“I’m happy that Bayelsans have seen what you are doing, and have said that you must complete your tenure, and to me, that has been my wish even before the elections.

“Let me formally use this opportunity to congratulate my younger brother, who worked with me as Commissioner for Youths and Sports, while I was governor, and he did wonderfully well, managing the youths and sports sector of our government. “He has tried his best and we have seen that he has done well, and that is why we want him to continue for the next four years.

“Results have been declared, we believe that the elections were well conducted, and we believe that the governor won the election. So, I urge other contestants to accept the result and work with the governor, so that the state will move forward,” the former president said. Diri in his remarks thanked the former president for coming to congratulate him, stating that he played a major role in his electoral victory.

“We feel very humbled by your presence, and for me, this is what we the younger ones need to emulate. It is no news again that you were head and neck deep in this race of governorship of our state,” Diri declared.
