Enugu: Reps okay bill for establishment of FMC

House of Representatives has approved for second reading a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ugwuaji Awkunanaw, Enugu s
State.

The sponsor of the bill, Chimaobi Atu, in his lead debate, said the FMC, when established, would enhance the wellbeing of the citizens in Enugu, and the entire Southeast geo-political zone, especially as there only three medical centers in the Southeast at the moment.

Atu, who represents Enugu North/ Enugu South Federal Constituency, on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), noted that the FMC is needed to fire the gap in health service delivery in the area.

According to him, “It is worthy to note that health is a crucial matter in any nation. It is largely known as an indispensable tool which is important in every aspect of our national life.

“Unarguably, one of the lessons learnt during COVID-19 pandemic was the need to have good and sustainable health coverage for all citizens.”

He added that his constituents are.
“in dire need of a Federal Medical Centre to fill a huge gap and address the concern of those whose future will be guaranteed by establishing a Federal Medical Centre”, in the area.
