Ebonyi: Police arrest 487 suspects, jail 15 in six months

Ebonyi State Police command, on Friday said it has arrested a total of 487 suspects for various crime between July and December this year.

The Command Commissioner, Augustina Ogbodo disclosed this in Abakaliki, the state capital at a press briefing.

She explained that 140 and 187 suspects were prosecuted with 15 convicted.

According to her, more than 12 stolen vehicles were recovered in the period under review.

“From July 2023, when I assumed office till date; over three hundred (300) cases have been reported and more than four hundred and eighty-seven (487) suspects arrested, while one hundred and forty (140) cases and one hundred and eighty-seven (187) suspects were prosecuted and charged to court respectively, and fifteen (15) accused persons convicted.

“We have recovered more than twelve (12) stolen vehicles, twenty (20) assorted firearms, three hundred and fifty (350) ammunition of different calibres, rescued more than twelve (12) kidnapped victims, and dislodged criminals from their numerous criminal hideouts in different parts of the state.

“I must commend sister security agencies, whose cooperation have helped the Command to achieve some of these breakthroughs; the synergy between us will be sustained

“Great people of Ebonyi State, the command under my watch have perfected strategies to ensure that the Christmas and New Year celebrations are hitch-free. The entire citizens of Ebonyi State are urged to go about their lawful duties and businesses without fear and enjoy the festive periods”, Ogbodo stated.

She called on the people to report any security breach immediately, to the nearest police station or call any of the phone numbers that command has provided for prompt response.

The entire citizens of Ebonyi State are urged to go about their lawful duties and businesses without fear and enjoy the festive periods”, Ogbodo stated.
