The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Benue state has debunked allegations that Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has colluded with the leadership of the party to rig the Saturday by-election to the Guma 1 State Assembly Constituency seat.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in Benue State, Chief Bemgba Iortyom, stated this in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday.
The petition addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and circulating in the social media was allegedly signed by some “Concerned elders in Guma LGA” alleging an alarming situation in the area.
According to the PDP spokesman, the said petition signed by an unidentifiable group of persons and purportedly copied to security agencies alleged specifically that the governor had made available the sum of N100 million to PDP and also imported thugs from across the state to help rig the election in favour of the PDP candidate, Jimin Geoffrey.
PDP stated that the allegations are wholly false and should be dismissed in their totality, as it is evident they are the handiwork of opponents of the party..
He said PDP understands that her opponents in the election have a reason to fear for their impending defeat going by the quality of campaigning the party and her candidate have undertaken in the six council wards of Guma 1 State Constituency.
